Writers Guild Welcomes Sunil Sarath Perera to Sydney

On the 9th of December, 2012, the Writers Guild of the Sinhalese Cultural Forum (Sansadaya) welcomed one of Sri Lanka’s most prestigious songwriters. In a career spanning from 1960s to the present day, Sunil Sarath Perera has penned well over 1000 songs including classics such as ‘Budhun Wadiya Rata’ by Pandith Amaradeva and ‘Yashodara’ by Sanath Nandasiri. Dr Palitha Ganewatta presided over the event.

SCF Media VP, Deepal De Silva, commenced proceedings, noting the contributions of the Sansadaya to Sinhalese literature in Sydney. Representing the SCF President who was unfortunately unable to attend, Education VP Shamal Pannila spoke of the SCF’s cultural contributions to the community. With the formalities addressed, Dr Piyasoma Medis regaled the audience of his four decades long friendship with Sunil Sarath Perera. Maithri Panagoda, a renowned songwriter in his own right, then spoke about the literary style of his fellow songwriter.

“Song Writing” workshop organised by the Writers’ Guild of the SCF

On Remembrance Day, a large and enthusiastic crowd attended a “song writing” workshop at the  Toongabbie Community Centre, organised by the Writers’ Guild of the Sinhalese Cultural Forum (SCF) .

The Media Vice President, Deepal De Silva welcomed the invited guests and the attendees. Dr. Palitha Ganewatta and Rasika Sooriyaarachchi presided over the proceedings.

The book launch of Henry Kumarapperuma

“Sinuwara Waruna” was held on Saturday the 26th May 2012 at the function centre of the Blacktown library, Sydney, Australia amongst a full house of invitees and well wishers, launching three Sinhala books to the wide Sinhala community in New South Wales. They were penned in Sydney, Australia by the renowned Sinhala author Henry Delson Kumarapperuma.

“Muthuhara” of Sri Lanka Rupavahini Cooperation is the most famous and well known children’s program in Sri Lanka. In 2009 it expanded overseas, when the first of its international branch named “Muthuhara Australia” was formed in Sydney.

Indu Premathilake’s Reflections: CD release

Under the shelter of fascinating Sydney Opera House glittering in the moonlight, its Utzon Hall was packed with invited guests from the Sydney community. They were there to witness the release of the first CD of songs by Sangeeth Visharad Indu Premathilake and to celebrate the 20th year of his musical journey. The CD contained sixteen emotive songs titled ‘Reflections’.
